BJP slams Maharashtra CM Chavan over 'home portfolio' statement ...

New Delhi, July 16 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday criticized Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan for his controversial statement over state home portfolio given to the ruling coalition partner Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said Chavan is washing off his hands and not taking responsibility by indirectly blaming compulsions of coalition politics.

"If Prithviraj Chauhan takes ten years to realize that giving the ministry of home in coalition was wrong, then it is indeed a very sad commentary in the way in which terror issues are being handled by the UPA government and their allies and their Congress government in the state of Maharashtra," said Prasad.

"Chauhan, ?you cannot run away from your responsibility?, Chidambaram has washed his hands that there was no intelligence report, you say the phone collapsed and now for inaction, the compulsions of coalition politics are being blamed," he added.

Prasad further said: "On the one hand, in Delhi, it is becoming the coalition of the corrupt and in Mumbai the compulsion of coalition is leading to killing of innocent people, this is not the way you tackle terror."

Prithviraj Chavan earlier told NDTV that if the Home Minister is from the Congress, the response to crisis situations may be quicker and more efficient.

"I don?t know of any other coalition government in the country where the portfolio of Home, Finance and Planning are not with the CM. But this is also a unique government where the two almost equal partners are running the government, unlike in Delhi or in Calcutta or West Bengal earlier, where there was a very dominant partner and a small party was supporting it. This is a unique coalition," he said.

Prasad also criticized Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh for alleging the involvement of radical Hindu outfits in Mumbai triple blasts.

"(Digvijay Singh) is playing politics with corpses in the wake of terror attack and seeking to communalize the situation deliberately. Nothing more can be expected from a General Secretary who gives a clean chit to Suresh Kalmadi in Pune and now is trying to communalize the situation," said Prasad.

"He speaks the mind of Rahul Gandhi and others in the leaders, I think they owe an apology to the nation and the nation is required to speak in one voice. RSS is a nationalistic organisation and implicating it in this manner is completely reprehensible and condemnable," he added.

Digvijay Singh earlier in the day said the involvement of RSS cannot be ruled out in the serial blasts that rocked Mumbai city.

Speaking to media persons in New Delhi, Singh said he still adheres to the allegations made by him, as he has possessed sufficient evidence against the RSS.

"I have said that I will not rule out anything. Let the investigative agencies inquire it. Yes, if they want evidences about Sangh?s involvement in terrorist activities, I have got evidences but not in this case. I have already said on my part that I will not rule out anything," he said.

At least 19 persons have died and over 130 others injured in the triple blasts, which took place at Zaveri Bazar, Opera House and Dadar in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. (ANI)
