Boston Mayor Declares Public Health Emergency

Boston is witnessing 10 times more rise in flu cases in comparison to 2012. This has made Mayor Thomas Menino declare a public health emergency in the city.

The situation is not only tense in Boston, but almost in entire America. It was in last month that the US started witnessing the flu cases. The time is considered to be an early arrival of the flu, said the health officials.

Early arrival has led more people infected by the flue, which meant more people getting admitted to hospitals and increased waiting times. Mayor Menino said that the condition is quite upsetting in Boston as a massive rise has been witnessed in flu cases.

This is the reason that Mayor Menino has asked all the residents of Boston to get vaccinated as well as take all the possible precautions to prevent the same. Health experts said that this time's flu is quite worse than last year one, which was quite a mild flu.

"That is in the recent memory of many people. They can tend to underestimate the effects of flu, but it puts several hundred thousand people in the hospital every year", said Dr. Michael Jhung, a flu expert who is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US.
