After spending a month selling cupcakes, pink ribbons and pens, Music Showcase was able to present breast cancer patient Debbie Morey of Riverview at check for $2,106 on Nov. 6 at the music store in Brandon, at 402 Oakfield Drive.
Recognizing October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Music Showcase raised the funds also by holding a kids fall festival and Halloween party on Oct. 20.
Music Showcase sought nominations for its fundraising dollars and selected Morey as its reciipient.
Morey?s friend Nikole Whitehead submitted the nomination. Whitehead wrote that Morey is now undergoing treatment with an experimental drug for stage 4 breast cancer.
Before this, Morey?s 5-year-old daughter was diagnosed with leukemia and is now in remission. Morey has two other children. One serves in the Navy and the other has Down syndrome and needs 24-hour care at home.
Despite her struggles, Whitehead noted that Morey stays positive and sews quilts and donates them to the children?s cancer center at St. Joseph?s Hospital where her daughter received treatment.
