Texas AG Abbott issues identity theft warning

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has issued a statement warning consumers of an identity theft scam masquerading as a federal financial assistance program for people who need help paying their utility bills.

Our affiliated paper the San Antonio Business Journal has an overview of the scam, and more detail is available from Abbott's website.

It's a good reminder to be wary of requests for personal financial information and of unscheduled visits by people claiming to represent a utility company.
