CivicInfo BC Careers - Engineering Technician - Regional District of ...

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary has an immediate opening for an Engineering Technician.? This newly created position is based out of our Trail, BC offices and will help to ensure the effective operation of the Environmental Services Department services throughout the region.

The City of Trail is situated on the Columbia River in the West Kootenays, 9 kilometers north of the Canada-USA border. Nestled in the Selkirk and Monashee mountain ranges, Trail is a four-season destination, offering an abundance of outstanding recreational activities ? from golfing to skiing, mountain biking, kayaking, hunting, fishing and hiking ? as well as first-class sports and recreational facilities.

The Engineering Technician reports to the Operations Manager and will aassist in the overall operation and maintenance of Public Works, Utilities, Administration and Solid Waste Facilities, while providing general technical / engineering services on all RDKB infrastructure where required.? Additional responsibilities include climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives, representation in the Occupational Health and Safety program, and assistance in the development of comprehensive infrastructure capital and maintenance programs.? This position works cooperatively with department managers and other staff members in a team environment, and must be able to carry out the duties of the position with minimal direction and supervision, while being a self-motivator.

The preferred candidates will possess an undergraduate degree or diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology in the discipline of Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering, and be registered, or eligible for registration, as an Applied Science Technologist with the ASTTBC, a minimum of two years experience in a similar capacity with demonstrated progression in responsibilities, and demonstrated experience in project management and public sector budget preparation.

This is a permanent full time CUPE bargaining unit position and offers an hourly rate of $32.06 (January 1, 2013), along with a competitive benefits package. A full job description is available at www.rdkb.com.
